GoDaddy vs. HostGator
GoDaddy is nice for domain registrations, but their web hosting leaves a lot to be desired. For anything complex (i.e. a PHP script) Godaddy is a pain, as their server software is outdated and configured strangely. Most scripts authors will not even support their products on Godaddy hosting.
The single issue that turned me off entirely from GoDaddy for hosting was simple web site performance. I personally experienced a lot of weird unexplained performance issues with GoDaddy. GoDaddy would be fast one day, and then slow the next. With WordPress or Joomla installs, I find HostGator to be consistently 70% faster than GoDaddy.
