Thomas Jane returns as The Punisher, but it may not be quite what you had in mind.
Marvel’s plans may not include a new Punisher movie any time soon, but that hasn’t stopped Thomas Jane from returning as the comic book gun-toting, tortured, trenchcoat-sporting anti-hero Frank Castle in a new guerrilla fan project that was done without permission from Marvel. In it, Ron Perlman of Hellboy fame co-stars as a wheelchair bound liquor store owner.
The ten minute short film called “Dirty Laundry” shows the Punisher going about his day, trying to get his laundry done as a gang of thugs terrorize a street. Though he tries to mind his own business, he eventually is driven to enact his own kind of punishment.
The short was shoot was a labor of love by RAW Studios, founded by actor Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist,) and Eisner Award nominated illustrator/production designer Tim Bradstreet (The Punisher, Hellblazer, Criminal Macabre).
RAW Studios started as a boutique comics publishing and production company. Since its founding in 2004, the company’s output has grown from a single comic series, Bad Planet, to a roster of more than a dozen current and upcoming print and digital comics and graphic novels, films, TV series, radio show, video game, and a music CD.
In regards to the Dirty Laundry project, Jane said, “I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
